Don't Miss "Didgeeridoo Down Under" June 18th!


The Destin Library will sponsor a performance of Didgeridoo Down Under on Thursday, June 18th, at 10:00 AM at the Destin Community Center (101 Stahlman Avenue). The performance is free and open to the public.

Didgeridoo Down Under is an educational program aimed at introducing young and old alike to Australian Aboriginal history and music. The performance will include the opportunity to learn and touch Aboriginal artifacts such as didgeridoos, boomerangs, bull roarers and clap sticks. Participants will also join in an interactive music and dance session and listen to performers play various instruments that look and sound as exotic as their names.

Artist Reception Set for May 21


A reception for two local artists, currently on display at the Destin Library, will be held on Thursday evening, May 21st, 6:00 – 7:30 PM, in the library’s Calhoun Room. The reception is free and open to the public.

The works of local artists, Ken Edwards and Estelle “Cisse” Jones, will be featured at the Destin Library through May 27th.

Cisse Jones has been painting for over 50 years. Her work entitled “Bicycle”, won the Best of Show at Pensacola State Fair.

Ken Edwards began his art career four years ago. He has studied with portrait artists Sue Carol Knight and Tony Ryder. Recently he has continued his art studies with professors JB Cobb and Lynn Rackley at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.

Young Adult Summer Library Internships


The Destin Library will sponsor a 32 hour Young Adult Summer Library Internship for up to 4 young adults ages 15 to 17 who are interested in acquiring community services hours for high school graduation requirements and information retrieval skills for future and ongoing academic purposes.
The program is eight weeks in length and is scheduled for four hours each Wednesday beginning June 10th and ending July 29th (1:00 - 5:00 PM)

Local Artist On Display


An art display featuring local artists, Ken Edwards and Estelle “Cisse” Jones, will be held at the Destin Library through May, 27th. The display is open to the public during library hours.

Cisse Jones has been painting for over 50 years. She has an Associate Degree in Art from Miami Dade Junior College and continued her art studies at Florida State University. Her work entitled “Bicycle”, won the Best of Show at Pensacola State Fair.

Ken Edwards began his art career four years ago with drawing lessons from Jack Wilson, an internationally recognized artist specializing in renderings of African subjects. Following this he studied with portrait artists Sue Carol Knight and Tony Ryder. Most recently Edwards has continued his art studies with professors JB Cobb and Lynn Rackley at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.

Destin Library Director Jurate Burns notes that “the Destin community is enriched by these artists and the library is proud to exhibit their work.”
