The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for personal satisfaction, based on interest rather than reading level.
Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. Students are encouraged to read books that are above, on, and below their tested reading level in order to improve their reading fluency.
Beginning May 15th, the Destin Library will have copies of the Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8 lists available at the circulation desk. Individuals wishing to receive lists in pdf format may send a request to wrogers@cityofdestin.com requesting “Sunshine State Young Reader’s List” in the subject line.

What neither woman recognizes is the immense strength of the bond between Malu and Jorgito. When the children learn that Malu’s mother is planning to leave Cuba, they decide to run away and travel to the other side of the island to find Malu’s father and persuade him against signing the forms that would allow it.
